The National Identity number is another very important number that should be owned by every citizen of Nigeria. Now, in a situation where you have to check the date of birth that was inputted during the registration, how can one go about it? You could use the USSD code—*346# for this purpose. Otherwise, you could visit the NIMC site—www.nimc.gov.ng to check for your NIN date of birth details online.

Another website that you could to check your NIN date of birth online is this— https://myportal.nimc.gov.ng. Lastly, you could also visit the mobile application for NIN on your mobile phone. All you need to do is ensure that your mobile phone is connected to the Internet.

How do I change my date of birth on NIMC?

There are usually several details entered when you register for your NIMC. Some of these fields can be adjusted and unfortunately, some other ones cannot. A few of the ones that can be adjusted include the following;

  • Your name
  • Your Date of Birth
  • Your geographical address(es)
  • Your phone number
  • Your place of birth (Local Government Area and State)
  • Your place of Origin (State, Town, Village)
  • Your father’s NIN
  • Your Father’s Town, and Village of Origin
  • Your Mother’s NIN
  • Your mother’s Town and Village of Origin, etc.

However, some other fields cannot be adjusted. A few of those ones include your gender, your NIN, your state of registration, your LGA of registration, your polling unit, tracking number, originating center, ID card number, fingerprints, and so on.

If you are going to change your date of birth, you would be required to pay a sum of fifteen thousand naira (N15, 000). Also, you would be required to present the following details;

– The original copy of the NIN slip that you were issued after your first registration.
– The printout of the Remita Retrieval Reference Number that you were given at the bank after you made your payment. You could also get the printout that states whether the payment was made online or not.
– A letter of application signed by whoever wants to change the details. The letter must contain the reason for the change in details.
– The document that can back up the change that is to be made in the form. That way, NIMC can ascertain the facts behind the information or new details. The documents used for backing up the changes to be made include the following;

  • A sworn affidavit
  • A newspaper extract
  • A marriage certificate

Now, to start the process of data alteration or modification, the applicant should follow the processes outlined below;

Walk into the center where you enrolled for the NIN. You could head over to any other enrolment center if you desire. However, ensure that you go with the document that backs up the changes to be made, and your letter of application.

You would then be given a form for the alteration or changes that are to be made to your NIN details.
The changes to be made would be accessed by any of the NIMS officials in order to ensure that the changes made tally with the ones held in the back-up document.

The enrolment officer would then type in the new date of birth on the NIMC software.
Ensure that you crosscheck the typed in details before the officer proceeds to do any other thing.

If you are pleased with the details that appear on the screen, the officer would immediately get your details captured. Usually, the details comprise your biometrics.

Once you are done enrolling, a slip for the transactions made will be given to you as a form of evidence.
The other NIN slip would be collected by the NIMC officer and retained if the change is one that will affect the info presented on that slip.

You’d be requested to come back in about five working days to get the proof of the changes made. Usually, the time it takes for the changes to be made depend on the network at that time.

A new slip would then be issued to you after the speculated period, with a new NIN attached.

To make the payment when changing your date of birth, follow the procedures below;

  • Go to www.remita.net to begin the process of paying.
  • Click the ‘Pay Bills’ option.
  • Under the section that requests for who you want to pay to, type ‘National Identity Management Commission.’
  • Under the section for the name of service, type ‘Correction of Date of Birth.’
  • Type in the amount you are to pay.
  • Type in your full name
  • Type in your phone number
  • Tick the checkbox for the ‘I am not a robot’. You might be required to click certain images, before clicking the ‘Verify’ icon.
  • Click the ‘Submit’ icon to finish the payment process.
  • Next, you will see a page for the RRR (Remita Retrieval Reference).
  • Print the invoice and then, note the RRR down.
  • Select the method of payment that is okay with you. Usually the options present include the following; Card, USSD, Bank branch, Internet banking, Wallet
  • Finish the transaction by clicking the ‘Pay’ icon.
  • Next, print the invoice for your transaction.
